Bliss In a Teacup

il_430xN.69285136

We’re inspired this week by the work from locals Bliss in a Tea Cup. Lots of fun inspiring things from embroidery hoop chalkboards to clipboard writing slates, a collection of treasures and things that makes one smile. They like to reuse and reconstruct favourite items and mediums in new ways. Bliss!

This Week from Lisa Congdon: For the Love of Scissors

lisacongdon_scissors

Hello! My name is Lisa Congdon and I am (starting today) joining Poppytalk as a regular contributor every Monday. I am thrilled to be here and I hope you enjoy my posts!

I love scissors. I have a fairly large collection. Once I even made a mobile out of my scissor collection in my store, Rare Device . It stirred quite a reaction—from delight to dismay!

Everyone has some experience with scissors—we have used them since we were toddlers. And, if we are makers, we have continued to use them into our adult lives. Many of us love our scissors—we search for the best, the sharpest, the best looking pair we can find. If you are one of those people who adores scissors, you might like these finds.

1. Etsy seller SupplyPusher offers these really sweet vintage-looking scissor charms, perfect for making jewelry.
2. This journal by Poketo has been a favorite of mine since it was released.
3. I love the large scissor image screenprinted on this hoodie by Etsy seller Circularaccessories .
4. I also love this scissor shirt by Etsy Seller Earth Cadets .

Birdy and Me, Lady Noire and Chanel No. 5

Loving this photography/illustration collaboration between Australians, Kelly Smith (illustrator) and Macushla Burke (photographer) for an editorial in Cream Magazine; Stylist: Sher Tualla. Visiting Kelly's blog (kjsdesign.blogspot.com) we couldn't help but notice her cinematic and fashion influences and loved these two videos below that she posted about recently. One a Dior campaign (Lady Noire), a Hitchcock-esque short film directed by Olivier Dahan (La Vie En Rose) and the other from Chanel featuring Audrey Tautou who has reunited with her Amelie director, Jean-Pierre Jeunet to create a beautiful short film on a train to Turkey. Both very beautiiful. (Birdy and Me Via Free People blog via knightcat). Visit Kelly Smith's etsy here.

Inspiration from Ace's Palm Springs!

I have no idea what brought me to the Ace Hotels website today, it was one of those instances where whatever you were doing before no longer had validity as you were lost in a sea of inspiration. And so I bring it here to you. I have to tell you, I am now on the hot trail for some white tent canvas just like they have here for fixing me up some window treatments! This is such a fun way to switch up the decor for the summer. And hey, I don't know about you, but my IKEA DOCKSTA table will be finding a new home amongst the palm trees outdoors this summer! There are so many ideas in Ace's Palm Springs Hotel I'm just dying to try out!

These canvas window treatments have that exotic tent feel - like you're trekking in Morocco, or at one of those safari tents in Africa.

The white slatted wall panels bring interest, offering up all types of wall art display possibilities.

Paint your terra cotta planters white to bring a fresh new look to your deck, and they also tie in well with the white table.

ikeaGet the patio look! All from IKEA: HÅLLÖ cushions; DOCKSTA table; ARHOLMA and PERSISK rug

The bulldog is always a simple and easy way to display art.

More slatted wall and curtain examples that show the versatality these two things can create. Oh happy day!

HELLO SUNSHINE

by Andrea of Hulaseventy

It all started with a picture my daughter painted of the sun. When I decided to devote one entire wall of our home to favorite pieces of art, I knew Ava's sun would be the first thing I'd hang. And it was.

DSC_0536

The collection rapidly grew around that one sun. As a seemingly random assortment of favorite photographs, art prints and vintage ephemera found their way onto the wall, I couldn't help but notice one particularly obvious running theme: sunshine. There's the sun-covered page from the old children's book The Sun Looks Down, my husband's illustrated version of the sun, Matte Stephen's 'Happy Sun' gocco print along with an old 'S is for Sun' flash card I picked up at a secondhand shop. To name just a few. I take great comfort in the fact that rain or shine, there will always be bright bits of sun in our home. As recent transplants to the often cold and rainy Pacific Northwest, I think they might be absolutely necessary. In fact, I'm not so sure I'll be able to stop until I've covered the entire wall. Good thing there's a world of illustrated sunshine out there. I think I hit the jackpot.

Seven suns that I am loving:

Ah, such a good thing I have so much more wall space to cover. See you next week, friends!
